Technology Today, Collectibles Tomorrow

Mice, USBs, computer screens and Blu-Ray players are some examples of technology that we use in every day life and take for granted.

As technology is always evolving, it is possible that there may be no such thing as a keyboard in 2020. If you’re an avid techie who constantly upgrades your equipment, or even just a normal every day computer/phone/tablet user, consider keeping old technology rather than throwing it out. You never know, one day it might become an expensive collectors item.

Below is a list of gadgets and devices that may change or not even exist in the future. Consider keeping them (even if they don’t work), after all you may not be able to buy a new one in the future.

  • Desktop computer
  • Computer screen
  • Computer mouse
  • Computer keyboard
  • Smartphones
  • iPods/Walkmans/MP4 Players
  • Fitness trackers
  • DVD/CD Players
  • USBs/Portable HDD’s
  • CDs/Floppy Disks (collectible already!)
  • Landline
  • Printer
  • Computer/home entertainment projector
  • Laptop
  • TV/Air conditioner remotes
  • Lamp (with light bulb)
  • Phone chargers
  • Tablet
  • iPod dock/Bluetooth speaker

Leaked: new Android operating system design (Quantum Paper)

THIS ARTICLE IS AVAILABLE HERE: http://androidandme.com/2014/06/news/rumor-google-is-going-to-change-modern-software-design-with-quantum-paper/

There have been an extraordinary amount of rumors and leaks over the last several months related to how Android and several key Google apps will look and work. We’ve heard rumors that Google will completely change the Android homescreen and multitasking experience, and seen leaked versions of Gmail and Google calendar that go against the Holo we’ve all come to know and love. All of the changes detailed in these leaks and rumors can fit under one massive initiative at Google called Quantum Paper.

So what is Quantum Paper? As Android Police, the source for this information, puts it:

Quantum Paper is the overarching name for a new, unified design framework intended to make experiences consistent across all platforms. According to information available to us, it represents Google's effort to both create (with Google apps) and encourage consistent, beautiful design that delights across all platforms. Quantum Paper is a hugely ambitious project, looking to unify and codify paradigms for visual, motion, and interaction design across all platforms, including web, Android, and iOS.LIAM SPRADLINAndroid Police

For as complicated as Quantum may seem, it’s actually rather simple. Google is going to be releasing the design tools necessary to make all software a cohesive experience from the web, to Android, to iOS. If Quantum is anything like Polymer, from Google I/O 2013, then we have a good idea of how Quantum will function. Take a look at the Polymer announcement from last year’s Google I/O below, and look at some of the leaks featuring Quantum elements that have popped up over the last several months. There’s a very good chance Polymer is essentially Quantum beta. If that’s true, Quantum will provide developers with assets along the lines of toolbars, icons and animations. Developers will be allowed to customize those assets to a certain extent while still maintaing a consistent experience between apps, developers and platforms.

Once Quantum is officially released, which is said to happen with Android’s “L” release, most everything Google will be built using Quantum following the Quantum Paper Spec. Just how far reaching Quantum will be remains to be seen. With the web as open as it as, and with Apple just releasing Swift, it’s not like every software developer making apps is going to jump on Quantum. But Google has a lot of pull in the development community. And if you want your software to work on the world’s most popular mobile operating system, you’ll be using Quantum too. Let’s hope we hear more on Quantum Paper at Google I/O just a couple weeks away.

$99 Windows tablets and $199 notebooks on the way

Microsoft expects that consumers could soon see a seven inch tablet running Windows 8.1 in stores priced as low as $99, along with notebooks as cheap as $199.

Microsoft announced during BUILD that it would ditch its manufacturer royalty fee to OEMs for devices smaller than nine inches.

Turner said that there are Windows 8.1 notebooks priced as low as $249 that compete with the budget priced Chromebooks from Google. They include the Acer Aspire ES1, which is already out, and an 11.6-inch Toshiba notebook that will be released in time for the holiday shopping season.

Sony SRS-BTS50 Bluetooth Speaker - Review

I was lucky enough to win a Sony SRS-BTS50 Portable Bluetooth Speaker, valued at AUD$179 it's worth the money.
The speaker has NFC, Bluetooth and AUX functions, with a battery life of 10 hours (for plenty of hours to party). The speaker boasts rich, clear sound in its normal mode, capable of being turned up loud without becoming distorted. The speaker has two modes, normal and surround, which can be changed by placing the speaker upward (surround) or forwards (normal). The surround feature works well, with the audio spreading in all directions (as compared to the one-direction normal mode). Sadly the speaker loses its bass punch when placed in the surround mode. The speaker is loud enough for indoor use, however it unfortunately does not perform so well outside. After testing the unit, we found that it was louder on Bluetooth as compared to AUX.
You can check the battery charge by simply pressing the 'batt' button on the bottom of the speaker, where a Siri like voice alerts you 'about 70 percent' (and so on).
There is a range of stylish colours to chose from including; pink, blue, red, black or white.

For a fashionable, lightweight, high quality Bluetooth speaker with long battery life, the Sony SRS-BTS50 is an option if you can look past the $179 rrp, and don't require loud music outdoors.

Our rating: 3/5

Artistic Branding

You find some cool things whilst searching the web. Here’s another!

(Pasted from http://www.dorithegiant.com/2013/10/pro-bono-promo-street-art-series.html)

My latest project is a street art series located downtown Brampton titled Pro Bono Promo. It's kind of like graffiti, although I created the logos using that brand's main product. For example, the Cheez Whiz logo is actually made out of Cheez Whiz! The name came from poking fun at the fact that this almost looks like free advertising for the companies - with free samples included! A big thanks to my friend who helped me make this happen! :) Some of them didn't last long at all, while others are still out there deteriorating slowly. This has probably been my favourite project I've done so far.

Crazy Google facts you might not know!

Google was originally called BackRub. The homepage read: "BackRub is a 'web crawler' which is designed to traverse the web."

Google has acquired an average of one company every week since 2010.

The first Google doodle was a Burning Man symbol. Founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin went to the Burning Man festival in 1998 and added the doodle to let users know they were away from the office that weekend.

Google hired its first in-house chef, Charlie Ayers, in November 1999, when the company had just 40 employees.

Ayers went on to become the firm's executive chef, overseeing a team of 150 employees across 10 cafes at its headquarters in Mountain View, California.

You can use Gmail in more than 50 languages. These include: Welsh, Basque, Tagalog, Malayalam, Telugu and Cherokee.

Around 1,000 of Google's employees became millionaires when the company went public in 2004.

One of those millionaires was masseuse Bonnie Brown, who worked at the company giving back rubs for $450 a week back in 1999.

The "I'm Feeling Lucky" button, which bypasses the results page to take users directly to the first result of their search, has been estimated to cost Google around $100m in lost ad revenue every year.

Google hires goats. In 2009, the company rented around 200 goats for a week to eat the grass and fertilise the soil at its California headquarters.

Google's first official tweet was the words "I'm feeling lucky" in binary.

Almost all of rival company Mozilla's money comes from Google. The firm pays $300m a year to be the default search engine on Mozilla's web browser Firefox.

Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin own just 16% of the company.

That 16% gives them a combined net worth of around $46bn.

A new Google employee is known as a "Noogler" and a former employee is referred to as a "Xoogler".

Google.com, home to arguably the world's most important internet company, contains 23 markup errors in its code.

Its main page is so sparse because Sergey Brin and Larry Page didn't know HTML. For a long time you could only search by hitting the return key – it didn't even have a submit button.

In 2011, 96% of Google's $37.9 billion revenue came from advertising alone.
